Volunteering and internships

Volunteer

Volunteers play a hugely important part of At-Bristol. There are a number of ways you can get involved:

Become a volunteer!

As a charity, we rely on our supporters to help us achieve our aims.

Here is your chance to join us and help us to bring science to life.

There are lots of ways you can get involved, and you don’t necessarily need specialised skills or a science background.

Whatever your particular talents, we want to hear from you.

Who can volunteer?

Most of our volunteers will be over the age of 18.

We ask for a regular commitment of at least 8 hours per month, and because we want you to get the most from your training and experience, arrangements of 6 months or more are preferred.

All volunteers are required to have a background check through the Criminal Records Bureau.

We offer:

  • A thorough induction
  • An identified member of staff as key contact
  • Ongoing support and supervision
  • Help with your travel cost

Become an intern!

“I would recommend an internship with At-Bristol to anyone.  It’s a great learning curve and sets you apart from the crowd in your chosen field.  For me it was invaluable, not only did I learn so much, I had to leave before my time because I’d been offered my ideal job, simply because I could draw on the experiences from my internship.  What’s more it’s a great place to work as it’s a warm and friendly environment”. Avril Wilson, marketing intern

Want to gain some valuable work experience?

We offer a variety of unpaid internships. Our internships run for 3 month periods and are between 1 and 3 days a week. They work on a rolling basis. We plan to recruit on the following dates:

Learning (2 days a week) - December 2011
Marketing (2 days a week) -  February/March 2012

Rockpool Digital came to help out with our Toddler Takeover days

Rockpool Digital help out!

‘When I first arrived to volunteer for At-Bristol I was really taken aback with all of the exciting facilities available to everyone and a little surprised that it wasn't solely targeted at children. The volunteering was so much fun, everyone got stuck in straight away and enjoyed helping toddlers get messy mixing paints and sticking together the most colourful jellyfish they could muster. I had tremendous feedback from many of the parents while I worked there too. On behalf of all at Rockpool, thank you for letting us volunteer with you and providing us with a wonderful day out team-building and a fun opportunity to help out our local community’. Laura Poole - Web Designer & CSR team member at Rockpool Digital

As part of their Hearts in Action programme AXA staff raised over £500 for our green roof and 20 staff came in to help us plant the sedum.

“The Challenge with At Bristol was well received by the employees who took part and was one of the best challenges we have completed.  We were glad to be able to spend the day adding significant value to the charity by creating the green living space for their future use and we look forward to returning in a year or two to see the end result!”
Jo Westcott  - AXA

7 Occupational Therapy students from UWE helped with face painting over February half term 2011.

UWE students help out with face painting!

'I am writing to let you how much we enjoyed face-painting with At-Bristol.  It was great that we able to practice first during the training day and all the staff were really welcoming. We had loads of fun over the two days, the children were brilliant and very tolerant of our face-painting efforts. Many thanks again for making it such an enjoyable experience!' Hannah Belton - UWE student.
